Our Mission

Educate current and future leaders, as well as the local community, on the need to integrate environmental, economic, and social equity issues in order to live sustainably and ensure a high quality of life for future generations.

About the Institute

We are a 501(c)(3) public charity based in Sonoma County and dedicated to insuring a sustainable future for California's North Coast. Our goal is to train people committed to a sustainable future to be more effective leaders, and to educate community leaders and the public to understand that the future of our economy and quality of life are dependent on each other.

Our work focuses on four programs.

  • Leadership Training for a Sustainable Future -- to develop the capabilities of people who want to lead to study issues and the political system in order to be more effective in shaping public policy to achieve a sustainable future.

  • Policy-Maker Outreach -- to educate public policy-makers with non-partisan analysis, studies, and research to assist them in leading the community to a sustainable future.

  • Public Education -- provide information about current issues and links to resources and other organizations that support sustainable development and lifestyles.
  • Community Networking -- give program graduates and community leaders the opportunity to share visions, test ideas, and seek solutions for a sustainable future.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change theworld. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
