Transportation
The
Surface Transportation Policy Project is an excellent website
for transportation activists. STPP is a national organization. While
it is a leading force for progress
transportation policy on the national level, it has a strong presence
in San Francisco and Sacramento. Their pages on Health and Safety,
Economic Prosperity, Equity and Livability, and Environment are
loaded with links to reports and even PowerPoint© presentations
that make a forceful case for
progressive transportation policy.
The
Sonoma County Transportation
Land-Use Coalition is one of the most comprehensive web sites
anywhere on the subject of transportation and land-use. While it
focuses on Sonoma County it features a global approach to transportation
issues. Study this site and you will be one of the best-informed
people in the community on the subject.
The
Transportation and Land
Use Coalition is a coalition of more than 90 Bay Area organizations
working for progressive transportation and land use policy. Their
Campaign for Smart
Growth provides the vision to create affordable housing in livable,
walkable, transit oriented communities.
The
Victoria Transportation Policy
Institute is an independent research organization dedicated to developing
innovative and practical solutions to transportation problems. This
is a highly technical website with dense reports and studies on
transportation policies and their effects on the economy, safety,
and quality of life. Their research is among the most current available
and has been widely applied. Particularly interesting is
their info on Sustainable Transportation Indicators with an insightful
look at how we are using the wrong feedback loops to measure transportation
effectiveness.
Reconnecting
America and their Center
for Transportation Development focus on the need to direct transportation
dollars to support sustainable development. Through it's site map
you can access examples of transit oriented development that enhance
communities and lead to sustainable development.
The
Metropolitan Transportation Commission
(MTC) is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating
agency for
the San Francisco Bay Area. The Regional
Transportation Plan
(RTP) provides pdf files on the 2001 Transportation Plan that drive
transportation improvements for the next 25 years in the Bay Area.
It lists current expenditures and future plans for our Sonoma County
under Golden Gate (the 101 corridor from the GG Bridge to Cloverdale)
and North Bay East West (Sebastopol to Solano County). DataMart
provides a wealth of statistical data. Regional
Indicators and County-to-County
Commuting show how many cars travel to and from Sonoma County
cities everyday.
